What are Lip Implants?
While we also offer a full line of dermal fillers to temporarily augment thin lips, lip implants are a more permanent solution to this aesthetic concern. At Metairie Plastic Surgeons, we utilize Permanent lip Implants that create dynamic, natural-looking results that either be left in permanently or adjusted over time to achieve your perfect pout.
Perma™ implants offer multiple benefits to patients, such as:
- Soft silicone that does not rupture, deflate, or degrade over time
- A common, straightforward procedure that is performed in-house and requires minimal anesthesia
- Flexible implants that do not restrict lip movement
- Can be adjusted or removed over time
- Approved for safety and efficacy by the FDA
- Made in the USA
- Designed to prevent “tissue in-growth” scarring
How are Perma™ Implants Inserted?
In a typical procedure, the silicone implants are inserted at the corners of the mouth through small incisions and positioned in the upper and lower lips for optimal shape and fullness. This procedure typically lasts about 30 minutes. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, leaving minimal evidence that you have had the procedure done.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Minor swelling or discomfort are common but should subside within the first few days or weeks. Your lips may be sensitive to light or medium pressure for the first few weeks as the implants settle within the tissues of your lips. Most patients are able to return safely to work and normal activities after having the implants placed.
Am I a Good Candidate for Perma™ Lip Implants?
Permanent lip enhancement is not for everyone. During your consultation with Dr. Sands and our medical team, we will discuss your health, medical history, aesthetic goals, treatment expectations, and other factors to help you choose the lip augmentation solution that is best for you.
